Spring Break

For Ben's spring break we went 'Alpine Touring' at Beaver Mountain.
Yes Winter camping. And actually it wasn't bad at all! Skiing it self was quite warm! We wore short selves and I sun burned my nose. :) I was way fun.
This isn't the most flattering picture of K & B -but we're (sorta) rough-in it!

What's cool about Alpine's in they have skins on the bottom of the ski so you can 'climb' up the slopes and ski back down!
No body in sight! Very beautiful.
Yeah we camped in the snow - but it wasn't so bad. We had an air mattress - 4 sleeping bags and 3 blankets wrapped around me. ...yeah totally roughing it.
(Ben was ultra concerned about me having a good time cold camping....)

One of the reasons we consistently pick vacation in Logan is to visit the Muffins as much as we can before they move to a sun shine state. (...still don't know how I feel about that....btw :( )
So we would take frequent breaks in our camping agenda to 'drop by'.
...boy, Miss Lizzy was being (cute) crazy this weekend.

Ben was pretty mad he was in the back ground of these pictures.... Just so you all know he's like 3 inch beard came off this week. :)

Cherry Chocolate + Girl Jordan

My Dad used to say (and probably still does) "a man is only a good as his tools". At the time I could GRASP what he was saying -- usually in the context of the right tools to fix the car ... but not until this last week did it really appreciate that little bit of advice.

Chocolate Cherry Cupcakes.

..... let me say it again and really let it sink in...

CHOCOLATE.

CHERRY.

CUPCAKES.

This was a super simple recipe from a really neat website - but it was even more simple when you HAVE THE RIGHT TOOLS.

(Kitchen Aid is Ben's baby)

This I really came to appreciate when I had to chop a 1/2 cup of maraschino cherries. I pulled out the cutting board and my big ol' knife and then paused like - 'there has to be an easier way..'
oh baby - is there.
One word.
Cuisinart.
(okay this... if you choose the check out the recipe - you'll note that she wants to use self rising flour. Kim's analysis of 'self rising flour' is that it's ridiculous. I wasn't going to by a whole bag for a cup. So ya look up the substitute that has you adding and EXTRA 1 and 1/2 tsps of baking soda. Thus creating this backwards cupcake.
CURSE YOU SELF RISING FLOUR!!
Yeah! C and C with heavy cream topping and a chocolate drizzle.

Wha ha.

And really quick.... this is "Girl Jordan" acting very silly at Zurchers.
Cute huh.

A Lesson in opposites

LONG

SHORT

ANY QUESTIONS?
..yeah... we cut it again...
I think he likes the contrast of the beard and bald.

Utah Co-Op

Look what Ben found! He's been eye-balling the Utah Co-Op for some time but it's only open Saturdays and Sundays. Today he made it a point to make it over there and he TOTALLY SCORED! (Muffin... you must make a special trip).

There are a couple of food co ops in the SLC area, but what is really cool about this one -- is the lady that started noticed that not all the food that is given to those in need (at other co ops or pantrys) are the healthiest! Her idea is to provide cheap HEALTHY food choices. And Ben got some pretty rockin' stuff for REALLY REALLY CHEAP!

Check THIS ksl story about it...

This is a tasty sampling of the treasures brought home! We did some price comparison at smiths ..like that bottle of olives.. $3.99 but .50 cents at the Co Op! Whoa!

A closer look. Check out the 'Tommy Knocks' Key Lime Cream soda. Holy cow that was good.

Muffin - we're getting some good crumb bros for next week and topping it with this beauty!
My favorite find would be this Bear Naked granola. I love this stuff. He got this BOX of 15 bags for 5 BUCKS!! What are you waiting for??? Get down there !!!... (next week... only open on the weekends.)

5 Lil' buttons

Yeah! This was so easy! I've wanted to get more into making sweaters/clothes/etc - but my pieces skills are lacking so I thought I would practice on something that doesn't take month/years to complete. This was like 3 days!
I learned the value flattening each piece before sewing them together - makes things SO much easier!

Love bamboo needles...
Check out my tool belt. I'm still missing size 7, and a full set of 3, 4, and a decent set of 6's. Don't have many circular needles either - haven't busted into that yet...
Currently working on another spunky green and purple baby pull over and Bens red stripped sweater. :)Too fun.

Shelby found this really awesome website - that allows you to post and track your own creations, check out how different knitters have made the same pattern and made their own adjustment, and free/cheap patterns.
I really would like to cannon ball into this website but it's going to take some time to figure out the gears of it all....

Bowling and Bagels

Last weekend was Bowls for Kids Sake for BBBSU. Ben's family team raised money and bowled big numbers. My parents donated 50 bucks to Bens team on the condition that Ben made 3 strikes.... and he didn't disappoint!

Check out last box for the total score of 133 - that's Ben's!
The follow night we made dinner for my parents and bro. I found this recipe for soft pretzels that were do good! With a warm bagel type texture.
So good.....
